Birchbox 'For The Dreamers' May 2016
June 01, 2016
Birchbox this month have put together an awesome and fun box with the theme 'For the Dreamers' and holiday competitions running throughout May, this box definitely has holiday vibes!
May's box had a scratch off feature on the lid and under the scratch off material on two boxes that Birchbox sent out was a note to say you had won a holiday! How exciting?? However I didn't win but there was another chance to win by uploading a photograph of your Birchbox on social media making sure you are following @BirchboxUK and @Destinology (@DestinologyHolidays on Insta) and tagging both handles with the hashtag #BirchboxUK or #BirchboxIRE and thats it, so good luck to my fellow Birchboxers who have entered the competition.
Back to what was inside my box this month, I received 6 treats in total including a full size product from one of my favourite brands Spectrum Collections...
Spectrum Collections Unicorn Tears Wonder Sponge - Full Size - £4.99
Spectrum Collections is a brand I know and love, I was so excited to find out there was one of the Unicorn Tears Wonder Sponge's in this months box. Not only did we know there was this item in the box but we also got to choose which colour we wanted from pink or lilac, of course I choose lilac since purple is my favourite colour. The sponge is awesome, its dense enough to blend makeup onto my face and doesn't leave strikes behind. The pointed tip of the sponge is great for getting into the harder to reach places like the side of your nose, I found the sponge easy to clean using my usual routine of Carex hand wash and warm running water then leaving to dry naturally. The packaging was lovely too, with unicorn illustrations featured and printed details about the sponge. The sponge is latex free so should be kind to any skin. Also it is cruelty free just like all of Spectrum's products!
theBalm Cosmetics Stainic in Beauty Queen - Sample Size - (full size priced at £10.00)
If your looking for a light weight, sheer and easy to apply lip stain this summer then this theBalm Stainic is the perfect choice. The applicator in the product is like a lip gloss wand and is really easy to use, the lip stain glides onto my lips effortlessly and leaves a sheer light colour behind. I really like that the product feels so light in weight on my lips, I can't feel it at all when I'm wearing the product. I like to dab the product dry after putting on my lips, I found this helped to set the stain and made it last longer which was fabulous. After the product is set the shade of the red lightens into a pinky shade however you can build up the colour with more applications. Removing the lip stain was a little tough though, it took a lot of effort which I didn't like, I want my makeup to stay on all day but wipe off easily with makeup remover at the end of of the day. I think the price of this Stainic is reasonable at just £10.00 for a full size product, the sample size I've received is also really reasonable and will last ages before I will have to buy another. This is the second product from theBalm that I've received in Birchbox and I've enjoyed using them both, I will have to look into purchasing some products from them on payday.
Rituals Tao | Wai Wang Mild Exfoliating Body Scrub - Travel Size - (full size priced at £19.50)
Rituals is a regular brand in Birchbox and thats perfectly fine with me, I enjoy the products when I recevie them because they also smell great and have good results. I now have the foam body wash, body cream and this body scrub from Rituals. All of which have been good sized samples too. I fully enjoyed using this body scrub because the body scrub beads inside the product was really small, this made the product more comfortable to use; I've had body scrubs before with huge beads inside that have sometimes hurt when being rubbed in. The scrub has the same scent as the body cream and wash that I already have which is a slightly floral and enchanting. My skin felt soft after using the scrub and it has worked well on my elbows, knees and feet where my skin is tougher, I'm going to continue to use this body scrub because I have loved the results so far.
Philip Kingsley PK Prep Polishing Balm - Sample Size - (full size priced at £18.50)
I don't tend to put a lot of products on my hair, I keep it simple with my LUSH shampoo bar, conditioner, a blow dry/heat protection spray an then dry shampoo when needed but I do like to try new products out that I receive in my beauty boxes. This PK Prep Polishing Balm is a simple product with not much smell to it, I used a small amount and rubbed it between my hands before running it through my hair from the mid length to ends then blow dried as normal. This balm is suppose to help dry ends and frazzled hair... I'm pretty sure my hair was fizzier than normal after using this balm but once I'd straightened my hair it was soft, smooth and my ends looked healthier so the product did do what it was suppose to do; I just expected to see the results after blow drying.
Caudalie Vinosource Moisturizing Sorbet - Sample Size - (full size priced at £23.00)
This Caudalie Moisturizing Sorbet is something I've never used before and it is a totally new brand to me, the product has a very floral scent which isn't something I like but I found the texture of the cream to be new and refreshing. The product was heavier than a cream but smoothed onto my skin and soaked in very quickly. It's known to reduce redness but I didn't see this however my skin was left feeling soft after applying. Unfortunately the scent just isn't for me so I won't continue to use this product; maybe if they came in fruity scents I would use the sorbet in the future.
An extra treat...
Vita Coco Coconut Oil - Sachet - (full tub priced at £9.99)
I've used coconut products on my hair in the past and had great results, however this Vita Coco Coconut Oil has been even better. This coconut oil has plenty of other uses aswell; you can apply to your skin for a softening effect, use as a makeup remover and it can be used for cooking, baking and frying! This really is a versatile product! I used the product on my hair as my hair is suffering at the minute so needed a pick me up, I applied the oil to my hair by running it through with my fingers and sleeping with it on, in the morning I washed my hair as normal and was left with silky soft hair which lasted too. I have since brought a full size tub of this coconut oil to continue to use on a weekly basis.
Now its June we can all look forward to a new Birchbox, I can't wait for the sneak peaks to start showing on social media. Birchbox is one of my favourite sub boxes that I receive every month; if your interested in signing up you can do so here.
