Birchbox September Edition - It's a drawer box!

September 17, 2016

September's Birchbox is here and its a damn good box this month; not only is the box design amazing but its filled with awesome beauty treats too. This month Birchbox is a drawer box which is fabulous, back in May they sent out drawer boxes and I loved it, I'm currently using my May box as makeup storage on my dressing table and I'll be using this September colourful edition drawer as storage too.

The box design is inspired by a fellow Birchbox subscriber's moodboard; from when Birchbox asked us what our dream box would be like in a competition earlier in the year. The winner has done an amazing job, the pastel coloured geo shaped design is lush; the colours match my bedroom perfectly too.

Inside the box was five items including two beauty products, two body care items and one hair care treat and a gift from Birchbox for referring someone to them previously. You can still get the bracelet by signing up here and using code 'ARMCANDY' or if your already a subscriber you've got to refer someone this month to receive one in your October box.

What was in my Birch-Drawer...

Batiste Stylist Oomph My Locks XXL Volume Spray - £4.29 RRP - Travel Size 50ml

I was super happy to receive a Batiste product in my box this month; I'm already a huge fan of Bastite Dry Shampoo and I use the hairspray from the stylist range too. This travel sized can is literally a back comb in a bottle! I personally spray this on my roots and work in with my fingers and boom... instant volume that actually lasts too. I did a whole day without re-spraying my hair and kept my volumising hair look all day too. I like that this spray doesn't smell like a hair spray or anything similar because it has a pleasant scent that's a little bit fruity in my opinion. I will certainly be buying a full sized bottle once this runs out.

Laura Mercier Foundation Primer-Blemish-Less RRP £29.00 - Mini Size 15ml
My current primer isn't a gel like formula like this Laura Mercier one is but I think I'm preferring this formula now. Being a gel it smooths in so easily and quicker than a cream formula, the gel has a cooling effect too which is very refreshing in the mornings. I sometimes have a problem with excess oil getting through my foundation especially on warm/stuffy days but I found this primer helped with that, I had less shine throughout the day when wearing this under my foundation. As for blurring blemishes I think this primer holds up against my usual one in that area and it blurs them enough before applying my foundation. Although I've had good results with this product I don't think I will be purchasing it because of the price tag that it comes with.

NUXE Proigieux Shower Oil - RRP £10.00 - Travel Size 30ml
NUXE is a brand I've only tried through beauty boxes and it's been hit and miss and I'm ruling this shower oil as a miss too but only for one reason and that's the scent. The scent is very over powering for me, it reminds me of floral perfume my Grandma would wear which isn't all that present especially for using in the shower. After using my skin was left feeling soft and refreshed so the formula is great if only it came in another scent. I was worried that because this product is an oil and not a cream that it would be greasy but I didn't find that at all. I guess if your a fan of strong floral scents then this NUXE Shower Oil will be a hit for you but not for me I'm afraid.

ModelCo Highlighting Trio - RRP £17.00 - Full Size

This ModelCo product was the item us subscribers was able to choose which we received this month, I choose the Highlighting Trio as the Créme blush looked a little too dark for my fair skin tone. The shades are very very creamy making them really bendable on the skin, I found the darkest shade was a nice golden bronze shade but it was too dark on my skin tone. The pinky shade is lovely and is perfect for my skin tone, it leaves me a subtle highlight on my cheekbones, brow bone and the middle of my nose. The lightest shade in the trio is my favourite, it still is a  pinky shade but with a pearlescent tone, this highlighter is much stronger than the others for me and stands out more on my skin. I would definitely re-buy this product even though I probably wouldn't of brought it before sampling it in my birchbox this month.

Polaar The Genuine Lapland Cream - RRP £15.00 - Samplel Size 25ml
I've had one other product from Polaar which was also from Birchbox, that was a night cream. My first impressions was that this was a Christmas product being called Lapland and the scent to me does remind me of Christmas with the berry-like scent. I love how easily this cream rubbed in and didn't feel sticky afterwards, my skin was left feeling soft too. The little 25ml tube is a good size for popping in your bag and applying whenever needed throughout the day. I'd welcome more products from the brand in my future Birchbox's.

A gift from Birchbox...

Birchbox Bracelet (Believe, Achieve, Imagine) - RRP £15.00
Last month Birchbox told us that if we have ever referred anyone to Birchbox in the past that we would receive one of these bracelets in our boxes this month. I'd had my hopes on receiving the 'Believe' bracelet but I received the 'Imagine' one which is just as fabulous. The rose gold metal featuring the inspiration word embossed in the middle of the bracelet, the fastening is a pastel coloured ribbon with tiny gold beads making this bracelet really dainty and stylish. Although gold isn't really my colour and I avoid gold coloured jewellery I like this bracelet because of the words, it will remind me to imagine my future and dreams and go for them!

    1. Thank you so much for reading and for your kind words! The bracelet really is pretty, thank you. I like the gel formula a lot in the primer but as I've said above the price tag put me off. I hope Birchbox send more of these drawer boxes!
