February's Birchbox - it's a good one!!

February 29, 2016

This has got to be one of my favourite Birchbox's so far, I've been signed up to Birchbox since October. The contents this month was exciting before I even got my box through my door because I knew there was a Spectrum Collections brush inside every box! Spectrum isn't a new brand to me, I already a couple of there brushes and absolutely love them!

The box design was all about diamonds and was purple (my favourite colour) too, this box totally matches my bedroom. I love it when Birchbox send themed boxes, this months was very sleek and fashionable too.

February's Birchbox had a good mix of items, with a makeup tool, 2 makeup items and 2 skin care items; I like to receive a good mix of products in all of my monthly beauty boxes.

So what was in box...?

Spectrum Collections Tapered Power Brush Full Size £7.99
Like I've said above, I already love Spectrum Collections brushes so receiving another brush in this months box was amazing. It's also a brush I don't currently have and is worth £7.99 which is nearly as much as the box cost. The pink handle and blue/purple bristles reminds me of unicorns so much, which is another reason to love these brushes. These are literally the prettiest makeup brushes ever!
As for the quality of this brush; again it's amazing, the bristles are soft but firm enough to blend product out onto the face, they hold enough product to cover the cheeks with blush too. I know from experience with my other Spectrum brushes that the brushes are easy to clean and continue to be the same quality after each wash, they are just like new once dry.

I used my Birchbox points to buy some more Spectrum Collections brushes, I was able to buy the 10 piece essential set as I'd saved up my points for a couple of months. Blog post coming up featuring those new brushes, check back for that post soon.

the Balm cosmetics Frat Boy Blush/Shadow - Sample Size (full size £15.00)
I've been wanting to try a product from The Balm for some time now but never had the chance. The brand is a little pricey to me when I've looked at full sized products in Superdrug and online, that I'd prefer the try out some samples of the brand before committing to buying a full size product. Receiving a sample size product in this months box gave me that opportunity.
This product is advertised as a shadow and blush, the shade is very a pink/peachy shade so isn't the best colour for me to put onto my eye lids as shadow as I have a pale skin tone but it's great as a blush. It gives a natural glow to the face and it's a great shade for spring! The sample size is very small so using a blush takes a few applications as the pan is too small for a blusher brush but its still workable. I will be more willing to buy a full size product from this brand after seeing the quality of this shadow/blush. The brands designs on the packaging are also really fun and vintage looking, making the make up aesthetically pleasing as well as great to use.

Eslor Firming Collagen Day Cream - Sample Size (full size £50.00) - Birchbox Exclusive
Day cream isn't something I regularly use and probably should, I never seem to find time in the morning to apply day cream before applying my makeup. I've tried this product out to give my opinion but I will be giving this to my mum after. This is expensive cream at £50.00 for a full size product and frankly to me gives the same moisture as a No7 day cream which is not half as expensive. The scent of the cream is very old lady like (if you get me) and smells like something my Grandma would use, maybe I will give it to her instead of my mum, haha. I will say that my skin felt very soft after applying and the cream soaked into the skin quickly so there was no waiting around for it to dry. The tub is a decent size sample though and looks like it will last a couple of weeks if applying just once a day although the Birchbox booklet recommends to apply to face and neck twice a day.

Ayres Body Butter in Patagonia - Sample Size (full size £19.50) - Birchbox Exclusive
Firstly this Ayres body butter is so refreshing and smells so fresh too, the ingredients list states that it has jasmine, lavender and ylang-ylang which are great for refreshing the skin and mind. When you want a pick me up this body butter would be great for that, the cream is quick drying so needs to be rubbed in quickly. I would consider buying a full size tub of this butter just because of the scent but also I like the feeling my skin was left in after putting the body butter on, so soft.
My only flaw with this tub is the colour of it, being brown it reminds me of a medical tub so that makes it less glamorous than other brands but other than that I like this product.

LOC (Love of Colour) One and Done Shadow Stick in Champagne Problems - Full size £8.00 - Birchbox Exclusive
This is a Birchbox own branded makeup product and the first in any Birchbox, I'm hoping to see more LOC products in future boxes. Subscribers was able to pick from two shades in this eyeshadow stick Champagne Problems or Perfect Cents.
I chose the Champagne Problems shade because I'm not a big fan of gold shades which the Perfect Cents is. My chosen shade is very subtle but leaves a nice glow on the eye lids, teamed with a winged eyeliner it makes a sleek look for any night out or even day time. Application is effortless because it's a pencil, it glides onto the eye lids. The shade stays put for hours but if your out dancing or doing anything active you will need to reapply, this doesn't bother me in the slightest because its so easy to apply.

Beauty Bonus

Catherine Malandrino Style de Paris Eau de Parfum - Tester Size (full size from £50.00) - Birchbox Exclusive
Receiving little perfume samples like this one is great. I love to pop a small tester into my handbag, it saves carrying a huge/heavy bottle of perfume around all day. The scent is very pleasant and can easily be worn as a everyday perfume. Catherine Malandrino is a fashion designer, there's quite a few designers creating perfume lately and some are a little hit and miss but this one is a hit. I love the fruity scent that is strong enough to last all day and the full size bottle design is simple yet stylish.

If you want to sign up to my favourite beauty subscription box you can do so here, you'll also get £5 worth of Birchbox points to spend in the Birchbox store if you use this link to sign up.
