Birchbox X Millie Mackintosh - Never Ending Summer July 2016 box

August 01, 2016

July brought Birchbox and Millie Mackintosh together to create a 'Never Ending Summer' theme, the box design itself had a summery, dreamy and bright theme with lots of shades of purple which is always good in my opinion.

At the beginning of the month we had a couple sneak peeks; one being a full size LOC (Love of Colour) lip pencil and a another full size treat from John Frieda in the form of either a Frizz Ease Forever Smooth Anti-Frizz Primer or Luxurious Volume 7 Day Volume In-Shower Treatment each worth £9.99!

My box arrived a couple of days after the dispatch day which was great, I did have a little trouble getting my May box because MyHermes messed up the delivery, this had nothing to do with Birchbox though. I was happy that the delivery was ok this month, I eagerly opened my box to see what goodies was inside...

LOC X Millie - Ultra-Gloss Lip Pencil in shade Bohemian Rose
BIRCHBOX EXCLUSIVE - Full Size - £9.00
I have received a LOC product in a past birchbox and was very impressed with the quality of it so receiving another item from LOC was great. This time the product was a Ultra-Gloss Lip Pencil in shade Bohemian Rose which is a summery pink shade with a 'not too in your face' shine to it. The design of this product means you can use the thinner tip to line your lips then the thicker side to fill them in making it a 2 in 1 product and great for a quick summer look. I will be taking this to the festival I'm attending at the end of August because of this feature. The lasting power of the lipstick is ok, I did have to reapply a couple of times throughout the day but this isn't an issue because I love the shade.

John Frieda - Luxurious Volume 7 Day Volume In-Shower Treatment - Full Size - £9.99
I don't remember using many if any products from John Frieda so I was excited to try out this Volume gaining hair product. To start, the scent of the product is pleasant but not fruity, the consistency is quite thick so a few pumps are needed for my mid length hair. The bottle states that you should work the product into the roots and under sections and to leave 2-3 washes before using this product again. After rinsing, drying and styling my hair as normal I didn't see much difference but after using the product again a few washes later I did see a little more volume in my hair, however my hair is quite thick at the moment so that could of been why I didn't see a result after the first use. I will continue to use this hair product every 3rd/4th wash to keep the added volume in my hair, I find it's easier to style with some volume in my hair too.

Nails Inc Polish in shade Upper Park Road - Sample Size - Full Size is £15.00
I've known about the Nails Inc brand for some time but never had the chance to try any of their products before until now. This is a small but welcomed nail polish treat, the shade is called Upper Park Road which is a pale pink colour and just like the lipstick above is great for summer. The polish is a pastel shade which is currently right on trend and will continue to be over summer. I applied 2 coats plus a top coat and the polish lasted all week, I use my hands a lot at work and am always busy at home so nail polish doesn't always last for me, I'm impressed with the lasting power of this Nails Inc polish. I'll be looking for new shades next time I go shopping.

Elemis - Hydra-Nourish Night Cream - Sample Size - Full Size is £43.00
This night cream from Elemis left my skin feeling so soft after first application, so my first impressions were awesome. I prefer to use night creams so I can sleep in them and the creams have enough time to soak into my skin plus it's always nice to wake up with super soft skin. Only a small amount of cream was needed to cover my whole face which means that the cream is good value for money even with the high price tag; at least you know it will last you a good while. As for scent, there was nothing special about it to be honest, it isn't unpleasant but there is nothing particular that I could relate the scent too. I would prefer the product to smell a little fruity for me to go ahead and purchase a full size product.

Indeed Labs - Hydraluron Moisture Boosting Mask - One Mask - 4-pack is £19.99
I love receiving face masks in my beauty boxes, I enjoy trying new brands and different types of masks; my favourite being a sheet mask because I find them easy to use and there's no washing the mask off later. Indeed Labs isn't a brand I've used before but I definitely will in the future, the mask was easy to use with only having to unfold the mask and press onto my face. After 15 minutes the mask had done it's work and removing the mask was as easy as putting it on, peeling off and then tapping on my skin to let any excess serum soak into my skin. Once my skin had dried it felt refreshed and clean, the mask hydrated my skin perfectly which was the main purpose of this mask.

Julys box had a good mix of products although I would of liked to see another makeup product in there as they are my favourite items to receive. Although this month's box was themed and still a well designed box, I really loved the drawer box we received last month. It would be great to receive another drawer box from Birchbox; the drawer box was perfect for storing makeup and being a feature on my dressing table.

The August sneak peak on the back of the content card shows a Birchbag which looks like a small makeup bag or wash bag which will be great for any summer getaways you have planned. I'm looking forward to receiving my August box, if you fancy signing up to Birchbox you can do so here, this link gives you £5.00 worth of Birchbox points to spend on the Birchbox store too.

Look out for my review of my August box towards the middle of the month.

    1. I wouldn't of liked a brown shade either to be honest. This pink is great for summer. The Elemis night cream is really good, I'm thinking of buying a full size one even without a fruity scent haha.

Thanks so much for reading. Gem x
